NURIMAN PUTRA
Born in Singapore.
Nuriman is a Singapore-based artist predominantly working with photography, film, and sculpture. His constant fascination with Romanticism enables him to engage in projects that explore overlooked occurrences in everyday movements and unfamiliar aspects of routine gestures. Through assemblages, these instances become apparent from the vantage point of his own embodied perception, forming an inquiry into post-truth politics and dominant knowledge systems.
Nuriman’s current research explores onto-epistemology as a point of departure for understanding identity and states of being. Positioned between the material and immaterial, the spiritual and practical, his practice engages with image and film making processes through methods of agency, chance, and the observation of time’s passage. These approaches reflect on how myths and truths take form– materially, temporally, and perspectively within intersecting realities. Through a cross-disciplinary image-making practice, Nuriman constructs imaginative landscapes that navigate between the realms of world-building and the unknown, while remaining grounded in resolution and theological structure.
Nuriman completed his Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Fine Art at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, University of the Arts London. He has exhibited locally and internationally.
